INFOGRAPHIC: Too Many Dresses, Not Enough Female Directors Being Recognized At The Oscars

This smart infographic proves what we've known all along about the Academy Awards: there aren't enough female directors winning anything.

If you have an internet connection, chances are you've probably seen the really cute infographic making its rounds on the web of every single dress worn by every single Best Actress winner at the Academy Awards from 1929-2014. Gorgeous stuff, right?

Well, you also probably weren't thinking about what that infographic would look like if it was showcasing the dresses of every single Best Director winner. No brainer: it's really, really bare. Why, you ask? Because the only dress worn by a Best Director winner was a Yves Saint Laurent piece donned by Kathryn Bigelow in 2010 when she won for her film The Hurt Locker.

The eye-opening infographic is the brain-child of screenwriter Annabel Oakes and graphic designer Charley Aldridge, who (like most of us) are probably frustrated with the fact that there isn't enough recognition of female talent in one of the biggest nights ever for film.

We may not know when the next time the Best Director Oscar may go to a woman, but we do know two things: either the Academy needs to implement more inclusive nominating practices, or male directors need to start wearing more dresses. Hopefully both will happen in our lifetime.
