Houston Mayor Annise Parker walked out of a press conference at city hall Tuesday after reporters repeatedly asked whether she and members of the city council were attempting to create a majority gay district.
"I'm out of here," she said upon her exit, according to My Fox Houston. "This is not what this press conference is about."
Houston will be subject to redistricting in 2011 due to a population increase, resulting in two new districts. The issue has been raised after a conservative council member was ousted from the position that would have put him in charge of redistricting.
Before walking out, Parker, who is an out lesbian, said she had never expressed any preference for any district or community as mayor of Houston.
"This is going to be about what's in the best interest of the city of Houston, not any one community," she said.
