Here's Why Miley Cyrus Fans Think 'Flowers' Is About Liam Hemsworth
Cyrus' new song is here, and the conspiracy theories are whirling!
Miley Cyrus' new era is upon us! Yesterday, she dropped the music video for the first single, "Flowers".
The self-love anthem is a groovy bop, and fans are already trying to make connections to Cyrus' real-life love life. Many believe the lyrics are about her ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth.
The chorus of the song goes:
"I can buy myself flowers
Write my name in the sand
Talk to myself for hours
Say things you don't understand
I can take myself dancing
And I can hold my own hand
Yeah, I can love me better than you can"
There's an unconfirmed rumor going around that, after the couple broke up, Hemsworth called into a radio station and dedicated “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars to Cyrus. While neither Hemsworth nor Cyrus confirmed this, fans are running with the story and are pointing out the similarities between the two tracks.
When you juxtapose Cyrus' song with Mars', that doesn't sound too farfetched. Take a look at the lyrics to "When I Was Your Man" below:
"I should’ve bought you flowers
And held your hand
Shoulda gave you all my hours
When I had the chance
Take you to every party
‘Cause all you wanted to do was dance."
Cyrus also dropped the song today, which just so happens to be Hemsworth's birthday...

As of last fall, she was in a relationship with Maxx Morando. It's unclear if the two are still dating.
According to The Sun, the Cyrus' are in a rough patch after Billy Ray got engaged to Australian singer Firerose. Reportedly, Miley recently cut contact with her father he and her mother, Tish, split in April after 30 years of marriage.
Parton is Cyrus's godmother and Cyrus calls her Aunt Dolly, but the two are not biologically related.
