In a recent video interview published on The Guardian's website, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 director James Gunn talked about how there might already be LGBT characters within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that viewers just don't know it yet.

"You know, somebody asked me, ‘Will there be any gay characters in Marvel movies?’ and what I meant was there’s a lot of characters in the MCU and very few of them that we’ve delved into what their sexuality is," Gunn said.

He continued:

"Whether it’s guy or straight or bisexual, we don’t really know. Um, so I imagine that there are probably, you know, gay characters in the Marvel universe, you know, we just don’t know who they are yet."

Although the possibility of more queer visibility in superhero movies is an exciting one, we can't help but be more than a little skeptical at these comments made by Gunn. As Comic Book Resources pointed out, Marvel has had a serious problem regarding diversity (or the lack thereof) in their movie lineup, as they are notorious for their predominantly straight white male casts

We'll only believe that Marvel is truly committed to diversity, when we actually see their commitment being implemented.
