Will the New 'Power Rangers' Movie Feature an Out, Gay Blue Ranger?

Sources also report the film will have an incredibly diverse cast lead by a female lead character.

Though Lionsgate's 2017 feature film adaptation of the beloved Power Rangers franchise promised queer viewers representation and then gave us next to nothing (seriously, it was a very blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment), it seems like yet another upcoming movie reboot is at least going to try and give us the LGBTQ+ representation we so desperately want...

According to a report from ComicBook.com, Hasbro and Paramount (who took over the Power Rangers film franchise from Lionsgate) are looking to create a diverse lineup of characters that will be representative and inclusive of the LGBTQ+ community and people of color. This, apparently, includes plans to make the Blue Ranger openly gay, and have the film led by an original female character, reports Oh No They Didn't

While it's exciting to think about the possibility of the Blue Ranger being out and proud in an upcoming Power Rangers movie, especially considering how beloved the series has been over the years, it's worth noting that none of these reports have yet to be officially confirmed by Hasbro and Paramount. ComicBook.com's initial source for all this casting information, The Illuminerdi, lists unnamed sources in their report, so we definitely have to take all of this with a grain of salt.

Considering the kind of "representation" we've got from Power Rangers in the past, we're not gonna get our hopes up too high...but I guess we can always try and stay optimistic??
