Bestill our geeky gay hearts, a Heartstopper LEGO set may someday be real.
The iconic toy company solicits concepts for new sets from fans by way of its LEGO Ideas program, where creators can showcase their work and receive votes towards its eventual production. In the past, sets for Friends, The Office, Sesame Street, and Seinfeld all made it to stores after first taking off on the LEGOs Ideas page. Heartstopper just might be the next to follow in that path. And honestly, the set is so cute.
The proposed set, which is available to peruse on the LEGO Ideas site, is a recreation of Charlie’s bedroom. Fans of the series will recognize many of the details including the “music” light above his bed, his drum set, his bookcase, and posters.
Of course, no set is complete without mini-figures, and this one includes Charlie, Nick, Elle, Tao, and Isaac.
The set was created by a fan named Feace who shared his inspiration for the project. “Heartstopper has warmed my heart with goodness, sweetness, generosity of friendships, and love from all the main characters,” he wrote on the LEGO Ideas page. “I read that Maxwell Fine, the set decorator of the series, said Charlie’s room wanted to be messy, but also had to have a sense of ownership, with layers and layers of life collected as he’d grown up; and maybe, the way Charlie embraces his sexuality is a direct result of him being so creatively [curious] in life. So I’ve recreated Charlie’s Room with love and passion using bricks… and it shows his design, decorative objects, posters, and... the creative chaos!”
It’s garnering rave reviews on the LEGO page.
“That’s such a lovely idea, I would love to buy it. That would make that the first queer LEGO set, I hope it will be a reality. Good luck,” wrote one supporter. “God this is such an awesome set. I’m putting all my hope on this becoming a reality,” wrote another.
For those who agree the Heartstopper Charlie’s Room set deserves to become a LEGO reality, you can head to the LEGO Ideas page and become a supporter. If the campaign reaches 10,000 supporters, it goes under expert review by LEGO to determine if it will be turned into an official set. As of this writing, it has more than 7,000 supporters with 725 days left to go.
