Celebrity chef Susan Feniger has seared, sizzled and sautéed her way to being at the top of Los Angeles’ restaurant scene. The restaurateur has two restaurants in LA – STREET and Border Grill – in addition to being a Top Chef Masters veteran and prolific cookbook author.
She also co-chairs Simply diVine: A Summer Soiree for the Senses, an annual food and wine event benefiting the LA Gay & Lesbian Center’s programs and services. This year Simply diVine will take place on August 27 at Two Rodeo in Beverly Hills.
In an interview with the Center, Feniger dished on what makes Simply diVine so special. “I love that it is all my really great friends from the industry who are all there serving their food. It isn’t often that you can get that many amazing restaurants together in one place with such great vintners under the stars, with two of my favorite musicians playing. It is so rare that you can be hanging out like this, having a great time and at the same time raising money for an organization that is really important.”
As a part of the board of directors, Feniger is passionate about all of the work the Center does. “Most importantly, I am drawn to our work with youth and all of the work we do to help get kids off of the street and get their high school diploma,” she noted. “And the Center's work with seniors, especially the inter-generational work that brings young and older LGBT people together--it's so impressive to me.”
Feniger also shared her recipe for Burmese Gin Thoke Melon Salad.
Simply diVine is a decadent outdoor event at Two Rodeo, where guests will sip, sample and savor under the stars. Participating restaurants include STREET and Border Grill, Jar, The Gorbals, AOC, Lucques, Tavern and Fabiolus Café. The VIP Tasting offers guests a chance to sample fine wines during a reception prior to the main event.
“Food brings people together, and great food brings people together in a powerful way,” Feniger says. “I adore the fact that so many incredible restaurants come together for Simply diVine, which offers the community the chance to sample such wonderfully diverse cuisines and wines.”
Simply diVine includes an extensive silent and live auction featuring travel and restaurant packages, fine wines and more. Tickets for general admission are $150, and VIP Wine Tasting tickets are $500. Simply diVine will take place August 27 from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm, with the VIP Tasting from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Galerie Michael.
