After an extensive national search, the Trevor Project named health care administrator Abbe Land as its new CEO on Tuesday.
Land will head up the Trevor Project, succeeding David McFarland, who has served as an interim CEO since April 2011. Land is well known for her work at The Saban Free Clinic in Los Angeles, where she has more than doubled the clinic's budget, opened two additional locations, and raised a $22 million endowment. Land has also served as a member of the West Hollywood City Council from 1986-1997, during which she was elected mayor twice. She rejoined the city council in 2003, where she is currently serving another 4-year term that she won in March 2011.
“The work of helping to prevent suicide among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth is of paramount concern and importance to a community I care deeply about,” said Land, who will be tasked with strategically managing and growing the Trevor Project's operations.
