It has been a whirlwind week for Ohio mom Jennifer Tyrrell. Early last week the news broke that Boy Scouts of America forcibly removed her as den leader of her son’s pack strictly because she is a lesbian. By the end of the week she delivered an emotionally-charged speech a the GLAAD Awards in Los Angeles.
Tyrrell told the star-studded GLAAD audience that her trip to the awards was the first time she’d ever been on a plane but that it was time for her and her family to stand up for what’s right.
“My son and other boys in his pack are becoming leaders, and that has nothing to do with my sexual orientation,” Tyrrell said.
With her partner and children at her side Tyrrell implored the audience to sign the Change.org petition she launched asking the Boy Scouts of America to reconsider its policy against gay youth and leaders.
