An Ohio man is calling for the removal of the buckeye tree as his state's symbol because the tree bears flowers with both male and female organs. With any luck, the letter was a sarcastic joke.
A reader wrote to the Findlay Courier that the Ohio buckeye, also known as the Aesculus glabra, is "shameful and unacceptable" and that a "bisexual" tree should not represent the state of Ohio.Â
"I urge everyone to contact their state representative and demand legislation removing the buckeye as our state tree and condemning the use of the term 'buckeye' as a nickname for residents of Ohio," he wrote in a letter to the editor.Â
