We missed this story last week, but it’s such a sweet one we just had to post it. Twin sisters Erin and Elizabeth (Liz) Czerwinski, daughters of lesbian moms, were named Valedictorian and Salutatorian at their Key West High School this month, according Freedom to Marry.
The women were raised by their moms, Caroline Bauer and Sharon Czerwinski, who just celebrated their 25th anniversary.
Conch Color, the local newspaper in the Keys ran a profile on the twins where they specifically discussed what it was like being cared for and raised by two moms.
“When I'm asked how it has been to be raised by two moms, it's hard to say anything other than amazing,” Liz told Conch Color. “It has always felt normal to me and sometimes I even forget that it's something unique. I feel very lucky to have had such supportive and loving parents.”
Erin added, “It's definitely different being raised by two moms, but the community of Key West has always been supportive. We have a lot of loving people down here that have made Liz and I feel very comfortable. I wouldn't want to trade my family experience for anything.”
Liz, the Salutatorian graduated with an impressive 4.71 GPA, and plans to attend Florida State University in their honors program in the fall, where she plans to study advertising and business. Erin, the Valedictorian, finished just .03 points higher with a 4.74 GPA, and there’s no word yet on where she plans to continue her studies.
