And then we get season six, right?

While the fate of season six of beloved queer-friendly cartoon Steven Universe still hangs in the balance, we do have one phenomenal update — the trailer for the upcoming movie is here.

If you haven’t yet boarded the Steven Universe train, the show follows a team of magical guardians called Crystal Gems who protect the Earth from evil threats. The elder Crystal Gems are raising a young half-Gem named Steven, who inherited powers from a mother who gave them up to save him.

The kids’ show has been lauded for its portrayal of same-sex relationships, non-binary characters, subverting gender stereotypes, discussions of toxic relationships, and many other issues that kids’ shows don’t often address.

Steven Universe has been on hiatus since early this year, but the film was announced at the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel last year. So it’s only fitting that at this year’s panel, show creator Rebecca Sugar unveiled the first trailer.

The trailer shows the Crystal Gems facing perhaps their biggest challenge yet — a threat that will wipe out all life on Earth if they aren’t able to stop it. There will be a two-year time jump between the end of season five and the start of the film, and, in typical Steven Universe fashion, it will also be a musical.

While we still have to wait until September 2 for the film’s premiere on Cartoon Network, we do have a little bonus content as the song “True Kinda Love” from the movie is already out and available to enjoy.

So check out the song, watch the trailer a few times on repeat, and start counting down the days til Steven Universe: The Movie is finally here. And there’s certainly enough time for a full series rewatch, isn’t there?
