An undeterred Chaz Bono appeared on Good Morning America and assured fans and conservative critics alike, “I'm just a regular guy. All these ideas that children shouldn't watch me, I'm going to be confusing, all this stuff, it's crazy."
ABC message boards have been flooded with homophobic and transphobic comments because Bono, the only child of Sonny and Cher, underwent gender reassignment surgery and legally changed his gender from female to male last year.
But the new Dancing With The Stars contestant isn’t wasting time or energy worrying about the controversy that has surrounded his casting in the new season.
"I really haven't been paying that much attention to it," Bono said on Good Morning America Tuesday. "I think it's a much bigger deal to everybody else than it is to me. I'm just a regular guy. All these ideas that children shouldn't watch me, I'm going to be confusing, all this stuff, it's crazy."
The Hollywood Reporter cites conservative org “OneMillionMoms.com has called for a boycott of the show, calling his casting, "completely unacceptable and Christians should not watch the show, no excuses!" While FoxNews.com “ran a piece by Dr. Keith Ablow called, "Don't Let Your Kids Watch Chaz Bono On 'Dancing With the Stars."
Cher and members of the LGBT community continue to rally their support for Bono with uplifting comments to combat the ignorance he faces.
Cher aired her frustrations on her Twitter, posting to her 350,000-plus followers: "I'm So fkng Sick of these PEOPLE! A person doesn't Wake up oneMorn & say"I'm Bored,Think I'llChange My Sex & Expose Myself 2 Ridicule &Hate."
Bono will compete with his partner, pro Lacey Schwimmer, alongside celeb competitors Ricki Lake, Kristin Cavallari, Elisaabetta Canalis, Ron Artest, Rob Kardashian, Chynna Phillips, Nancy Grace, David Arquette, J.R. Martinez, Carson Kressley, and Hope Solo when season 13 premieres Monday, September 19.
