R&B has more life than ever with the electro-soul and retro-futurist music of Chanti Darling!

The new music video for Chanti Darling's track "Grab on to Me" delivers a colorful and juicy pop song to dance to while breaking down stereotypes around gender roles. The bop is the latest single from Darling's first LP, entitled RNB Vol. 1, which he describes as an "homage to the full spectrum of the genre and its many subgenres. It’s an experiment in classic songwriting and retro-futurism. On this album you’ll get classic R&B, disco, boogie funk, freestyle, new jack, and '90s all pushed through a contemporary lens."

Darling, who goes by Chanticleer Trü when he isn't on stage, is based in Portland, Oregon and is one of the most important emerging artists from the city. Raised on a steady diet of jazz, soul, and his mom’s boogie funk collection, Trü is exploring new fields, melding '80s retro-futurist iconography with the dizzying universe of house music.

"I wanted to create a record that people could be absorbed by. Something to hold them and envelop them. The world...the world itself has gotten so dark. That darkness bleeds over into everything that we create. Which can be amazing. But I felt my call was different. I wanted to create a shift to positivity and light," said Trü, who is challenging stereotypes about gender roles, masculinity, and femininity in R&B as Chanti Darling.
