We love a kid-friendly queen!

Reality stars often capitalize on their moment in the spotlight but RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Nina West is doing so in a slightly unusual way. She’s releasing an album of children’s music.

The drag queen spoke with Entertainment Weekly about her recent stint on the show as well as her upcoming projects.

“I’m releasing two different EPs, as only a Drag Race queen would,” she said, clarifying that one is a comedy album. “The other EP is a children’s EP, and the lead track is called “Drag is Magic,” talking about how drag is dress-up.”

“It’s based on RuPaul’s principle: Everything you wear is drag. It’s not a bad word. It’s a subcultural art form, but it’s being so adopted by people, so it’s ok for kids who are curious about what it is to consider dress-up drag!”

West has long been an activist in her community, as many drag queens are, and has said that outreach to LGBTQ youth is a big part of that.

“One of my dreams has been to engage a younger audience, queer parents, and parents of queer kids. There aren’t a lot of resources out there [for queer education]…I want to fill that gap and be the drag queen who’s like Barney or Mrs. Doubtfire, doing stuff that’s family friendly.”

She also spoke with Billboard about how her other album, the comedy album John Goodman, will be somewhat political.

“The first song is about Sarah Huckabee Sanders so I am using my drag scene to be political, but also having fun with it in the process,” West said.

Both albums are to be released on May 17th.
