It’s battle of the heavy-hitting female Oscar winners with Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet facing off as over-protective mothers ironing out the terms of a dispute between their sons in the chamber piece Carnage, the film incarnation of Yasmina Reza’s hit play God of Carnage.
The dark comedy also stars Academy Award winner Cristoph Waltz and nominee John C. Reilly playing Winslet’s and Foster’s husbands respectively.
While the Roman Polanski directed film is ‘a talker,’ there’s no shortage of fiery energy and unexpected laughs when the two couples meet to attempt to discuss their children’s infractions civilly.
It ends up devolving into a messy, surprisingly intimate look at monogamy and matrimony.
The Tony-award winning play saw Marcia Gay Harden, Hope Davis, Jeff Daniels, and James Gandolfini originate the four roles.
Carnage opens in theaters on December 16th.
