Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant opened up about his relationship with his lesbian mother.
On Thursday, Bryant was selected 24th in the NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys and spoke with the Dallas Morning News about his "troubled' family life and his mom, Angela, who had him at the young age of 15 and later came out as lesbian.
Bryant, who grew up in a conservative town of about 32,000 located in the heart of the Bible Belt in a small Texas town, says he has become "comfortable" with his mother's "change in sexual orientation" - but he still has issues about it, reports the Advocate.
"I didn't like it. Really, I still don't," he said. "I dealt with it and now I'm comfortable with it."
Angela Bryant said she was honest with him early on because they have no secrets in their relationship.
"It hurt me that it hurt him. I'm very happy about the relationship that we have," she said. "I wasn't close with my parents, so it's important for me to be close with my kids. I'm not a typical mom, but my kids know I love them. They can tell me anything and I'll do anything for them."
Dez's mom supported her son's athletic career and according to the Dallas Morning News, she attended most of his games at Oklahoma State, making the eight-hour drive from Lufkin to Stillwater with Dez's best friend. She once took an 18-hour bus ride to see his college debut against Georgia in 2007.
