Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to speak at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego this weekend. The hotel is owned by major contributor to Yes on 8, Doug Manchester.
A group of LGBT and Human Rights leaders, including San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria, NAMES Project founder Cleve Jones, Courage Campaign head Rick Jacobs and Fred Karger of Californians Against Hate have publicly asked Clinton to change the speaking engagements location as, "neither labor nor the gay community can tolerate a hotel whose profits are used to take away equal rights from gay couples and create poor working conditions for women and immigrants."
The Manchaster boycott is an AFL-CIO sanctioned strike, therefore, if Clinton does indeed keep his engagement, he will be crossing a picket line.
Several groups have canceled events with the Manchaster Hyatt in response to the boycott, such as Society of American Law Teacher, California Nurses Association and San Diego Association of Realtors.
