Queen Latifah is a stunner on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter this week. The rapper-turned-actress and jazz chanteuse makes THR’s cover in time for her upcoming self-titled daytime talk show.
THR’s comprehensive cover interview with the Queen touches on various subjects, from her new show to the possibility of ever hosting the Oscars. But there’s still one subject Latifah says is not open discussion — her sexual orientation.
From THR's interview:
"I don't feel the need to discuss my private life on this show or any other show," she says somewhat wearily as she eats a sushi lunch at her desk. "There's the part of my life that the public and I share together. And there's the part that's mine to keep for myself. And that's mine. For me."
Of course, the Grammy-winner has every right to keep some things private, but as Trish Bendix at AfterEllen points out, if she's hoping to steal lesbian-leaning daytime audiences from fellow talk show mavens like Ellen DeGeneres and Sara Gilbert on The Talk, it might help to be open about who she is and who she loves. And since the Queen's show is supposed to feel comfortable, like you're kicking back on the couch at Latifah's home, it's not unreasonable to assume within that space, she might, at some point, casually mention anyone who happens to love and support her like a partner.
Take a look at the cover, where the Queen looks positively regal, below:
And we just want to take a moment to note the juxtaposition of this cover line directly above the Queen's raised hand: "Big Gay Hollywood Wedding! Planning 101 + Who's Engaged."
Subtle, THR. Real subtle.
