WATCH: Ellen DeGeneres Takes Over for Letterman - Sort Of!

This may be one of the more brilliant pieces Ellen has ever done.

Prior to the announcement that Stephen Colbert would take over for David Letterman in his late-night slot, Ellen DeGeneres’ name had been tossed into the ring as a possible contender for the gig, but Ellen basically said, “Thanks, but no thanks" to late-night. Still, the reigning queen of daytime took it one step further by doing a faux late-night version of her show, replete with a cheesy bandleader and a cymbal for emphasis!

Ellen gives a slightly brilliant interpretation/skewer of the late-night format before sending heartfelt love to Letterman.
