WATCH: Ellen Page Relates to 'X-Men' Because She’s Openly…Canadian

Ellen Page is clearly a woman after our own hearts, with her charm, wit, and acerbic snark. Swoon! 

On Thursday, Page stopped by The Colbert Report, where she showed off her superhero comedic prowess when she and host Stephen Colbert quipped about the impact of her coming-out speech and her role as Kitty Pryde in the upcoming film X-Men: Days of Future Past.

First, Colbert questioned Page about being "openly Canadian." Colbert asked how young Page was when she found out she was Canadian, and how she dealt with friends who wanted to go to Dunkin' Donuts over Tim Horton's. Page countered by drawing parallels between being Canadian with challenges faced by mutants in the X-Men universe.

Colbert also laid into Page about the fact that her heartfelt coming-out speech at the Human Rights Campaign's website, telling her she "broke human rights!" The quick-witted out actor told Colbert that's simply "what us gays are doing," prompting Colbert to add that "it’s all part of the plan." Then the pair re-enacted Page's coming-out as it would have happened on the Report. 

X-Men: Days of Future Past, starring Ellen Page and openly British thespian Ian McKellen, opens in theaters on May 23.
