Evan Rachel Wood Talking About Ellen Page Proves Queer Friendship Is the Best Friendship

Evan Rachel Wood and Ellen Page give us serious #FriendshipGoals.

We love Evan Rachel Wood, musician, actress, and complete and total bi icon. From taking the center stage by highlighting the marginalization of bi folks to just being a generally outspoken badass, Wood is a figure we need and are so grateful to have.

In an interview with Refinery29, Wood talked about her friendship with Page in a way that made us feel warm and fuzzy toward our queer besties. Talking about starring alongside Page in the upcoming Into The Forest, Wood said, “It was just cool for us right away to be like, ‘Wow, I’ve admired you for so long, now I get to watch you work and we get to work together, and it’s like our powers combined are just going to be insane!’”

"It was that immediate,” Wood said. “We met at this point in our lives, we’re both on this precipice of change and growth. She was just about to give her big coming-out speech, and I was just about to get divorced. So we immediately latched onto each other through our journeys. I think going through those experiences together really bonded us almost immediately."

Even more moving (as if this could get more tear-jerking) is that Wood told The Daily Beast about how Page inspired her to step forward and be her true, authentic self by coming out. “She has been so inspiring for me on every level,” Wood said. “It did inspire me to want to speak out and also show that it doesn’t matter who you are, you’re affected by the way we perceive certain people in the world and the messages that we send out to society.”

As queer people, we need to see ourselves in other people, and sometimes the best way to do that, beyond icons, beyond celebs, and even beyond history, is by seeing ourselves in our friends. While diversity in friendship is, of course, totally rad, it can really help queer people to at least sometimes be surrounded by people who just innately understand us.

If nothing else, the instant bond between Page and Wood shows that queer friendship has value, and give us so much validity when it comes to who we are, and who we seek to become.
