Watch: Melissa Etheridge Tells Chelsea Handler 'I'm Not Gay, It's all for Publicity'

While promoting her latest album 4th Street Feeling Melissa Etheridge stopped by Chelsea Lately and joked that she’s not really a lesbian – she just said so to sell more albums. Host Chelsea Handler greeted the multi-Grammy winner by saying, “You’re one of the first lesbians ever to exist on earth,” referring to Etheridge’s watershed coming out in the early ‘90s.

The pair discussed how Etheridge’s album sales skyrocketed once she came out in 1993.  “It’s all a publicity stunt and I’m not gay,” Melissa said. They also touched on Melissa coming out to her parents and her early days trying to make it as a musician in Los Angeles.
