As Australians enter crunch time to submit their ballots regarding the future of LGBT rights—specifically nation-wide marriage equality—local activists and campaign workers are getting creative with the landmark issue's support and promotion. LGBT allies and local businesses contributed to a mass sausage party cook out this past week in which they served "snags" (an Aussie sausage delicacy). The party was a break from Australia's traditional "sausage sizzle" fundraisers during political campaigning which feature "democracy sausages."
Thousands of people came out to support the civil rights movement and enjoy a nice weiner in their down time (because who doesn't like a nice weiner??). The October 27 deadline for citizen surveys is coming up fast, and already, hundreds of thousands have submitted in anticipation. With some help from fundraisers like the "snag" party, hopefully we'll see Australia take a new step forward with for its LGBT citizens.
