Because we should all use our privilege to speak out and support our community.

Today Gaby Dunn, bisexual YouTuber and comedian, was featured on SoundCloud show "How Are You Thinking About" where she talked about everything from working with famous men to not giving a fuck. But what stuck out most to us was her commentary on Black Lives Matter.

As you know, we’ve been talking a lot about the #BlackLivesMatter movement in an attempt to highlight the voices of queer people of color, specifically queer black people. Being anti-racist is so important if we, as a community, are going to call ourselves an inclusive community.

Considering that, as LGBT and queer folks, we know what oppression feels like, I'd hope we'd have a better grasp on what it’s like to be oppressed than people who aren’t marginalized.

In the show, Dunn used her white privilege to give voice to this super important issue. "There are a lot of YouTubers that don’t take a stance on anything and I find that very boring,” Dunn said. “Black Lives Matter shit is going on and they’re tweeting about their cinnamon challenge video.”

She continued on, saying, “I understand that that’s your brand and your thing is not to be controversial at all, but fuck you."

Because that’s the thing. Not getting political isn’t an option when your life is seen as political, and queer people, queer people of color, and queer black people definitely know what that feels like.

Props to Dunn for using her privilege for good, instead of using her distance from the issue to be silent.

Keep doing your thing, Gaby. We’re here for you.[iframe https://giphy.com/embed/26BRzGD5SpM3Bli80 allowfullscreen="" class=^{{"giphy-embed"}}^ frameborder="0" height="270" width="480"]
