If you love a good soapy woman-in-peril story that’s also a taut thriller in the vein of Sleeping with the Enemy be sure to catch Past Obsessions, featuring a lesbian couple played by Sonja Bennett (Exes and Ohs, Battlestar Gallactica) and Alisen Down (Lost Girl, SGU Stargate Universe), on Lifetime premiering tonight at 8 p.m.
The film, from Regent Entertainment, stars Josie Davis (Beverly Hills 90210, CSI: NY, Hollywood Heights) as Shane, a woman desperate to escape from her controlling, abusive husband Matt played by a darkly terrifying David Millbern (Slumber Party Massacre, Gods and Monsters, In Her Line of Fire).
A stark winter leaves housewife Shane home honing her hobby as a painter while her industrialist husband Matt lands real-estate deals. Between making deals the outrageously wealthy Matt obsesses about dinner parties, who his wife may or may not be sleeping with and harangues and verbally and physically abuses her.
But it turns out Shane has been up to more than painting during her imprisonment with Matt--she’s been planning her escape. Once she fakes her own death and leaves Matt a grieving widow Shane heads to Washington State where her lesbian cousin Estelle and her partner Meg run an adorable bistro. There, Shane finds shelter, work and friendship.
But it’s not long before Matt becomes wise to Shane’s scheme and an epic showdown ensues.
Tune in to Lifetime tonight to catch the excellent cast of Davis, Millbern, Bennett and Down.
