Bitch Debuts a Name Change and a New Single

Perhaps what is just as compelling as new music from this stalwart queer artist is her decision to change her name from the radical “Bitch” to the decidedy more serene "BEACH."

The consummate musician and vocalist formerly of Bitch and Animal and Bitch and the Exicting Conclusion shared with us in a statement her thoughts about the decision to change her name:

BEACH represents to me a place where everything shifts.  Rocks become
sand, water meets earth, birds screech, tides turn and colors collide.

When I was working on this album in Brooklyn, my producer (Roger Paul
Mason) was totally unfamiliar with my past work. We had barely met,
had no expectations, and I was looking to do something totally new.
So the process of making this album was super refreshing. It allowed me to be playful, to be stronger in my truest self and to have so much fun.

I decided to leave New York, where I had been for 15 years. I moved,
with Alligator, to a log cabin in the middle of nowhere Michigan and
continued to work on the songs. The way I was approaching music was
changing and at the same time my whole approach to living was
changing.

My "real name" is something I have kept to myself for years. I guess
when I started performing (or when I was younger) I was playing with a
private/public self. But after years of having a separate public
persona, I’m now much more interested in directing that energy into
the music itself.

The final thing about BEACH that really appeals to me, and I feel this
more than ever now that Alligator and I have relocated to California,
is how the BEACH makes me conscious of my connection to the ocean and
the land. Something about being right at the very border between two
worlds reminds us how much we are a part of both of them (or nature).
And I think music does something similar. It helps us slow down and
take notice of where we are, what we’re doing and what we’re dreaming
of.

The new album, due out on July 16th, features indie electro rock fused together by the artist’s electric violin & chaotic energy.

The album is a collaboration with Billie Jo (Alligator) and was produced by Roger Paul Mason on Karen Mould's (the artist formerly known as Bitch) own Short Story Records.

Her first solo album Make This/BreakThis was released in 2006 to critical success, and the artist followed it with Blasted! in 2010.  Blasted! was completely self-produced and fully funded by Bitch'sloyal fan-base.
