The 4th Annual Women�s Redrock Music Festival Takes Over Utah

Quality trumps quantity at this quaint women’s music festival held annually in Torrey, Utah. Borrowing one of Sophia Petrillo’s set-ups from TheGolden Girls: “Picture this – Utah with red rock and lots of women. Everyone from around the world was there and swaying to the music. It was one of the best times in my life. Except for the time when I kissed the Pope’s ring and it ended up in my purse on accident.” Okay, so…minus the ring in the purse thing.

The Women’s Redrock Music Festival is independently manufactured and organized with care by music enthusiasts Carol Gnade, Jeri Tafoya, Laurie Wood, and Lu Prickett in conjunction with the Utah Pride Center.  The increasingly-popular festival is geared towards empowering women and everyone – LGBT or not – is invited to attend.  In fact, one of the greatest benefits to the surrounding community of Torrey, Utah is that the population is exposed to music they may not have ever known about or heard otherwise.

Tickets for the Women’s Redrock Music Festival are reasonably priced and go towards helping women throughout Utah via scholarships and donations. Tickets are $25 for the August 7, 2010 show from 5:00pm – 11:00pm, $35 for the August 8, 2010 show from 12:00pm – 11:00pm or $55 for both dates, respectively.

In addition, funds will also be directed towards the Utah Pride Center. The website for the Utah Pride Center lists the following mission statement: “The Utah Pride Center is a community-based organization that provides support, education, outreach and advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer individuals and their allies, through programs, services and resources.”

The 3^rd Annual Women’s Redrock Music Festival showcased K’s Choice singer/songwriter Sarah Bettens, Jill Knight, Edie Carey, Driftwood Fire, Pieta Brown, and slam poet Andrea Gibson. The performance line-up for 2010 sports some new names and some more familiar ones. Once you have your housing accommodations figured out, you can plan some memory-building activities with your friends and truly make an unforgettable weekend out of your trip. Some ideas include: taking a scenic drive, hiking, mountain biking, camping, checking out one of the awesome cafés and staring at the gorgeous red rock encompassing the surrounding areas.
