'Dragon Tattoo's' Noomi Rapace Set to Star in 'Sherlock 2'

The original actress to embody The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace, has been tapped to play the female lead opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the Warner Bros.’ Sherlock Holmes 2, according to Variety. Back on board for Sherlock 2 is Guy Richie, at the helm, and Jude Law as Dr. Watson and Rachel McAdams. Meanwhile, Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis is rumored to be playing Sherlock’s nemesis Dr. Moriarty.

The original actress to embody The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace, has been tapped to play the female lead opposite Robert Downey Jr. in the Warner Bros.’ Sherlock Holmes 2, according to Variety.

Rapace made an indelible impression on audiences as Dragon Tattoo’s Lisbeth Salander, the anti-heroine / supreme hacker and the brainchild of Stieg Larsson, in the Millenium Trilogy, which includes The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.

Sherlock will mark Swedish actress Rapace’s first English-speaking role.

Back on board for Sherlock 2 is Guy Richie, at the helm, and Jude Law as Dr. Watson and Rachel McAdams. Meanwhile, Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis is rumored to be playing Sherlock’s nemesis Dr. Moriarty.

The next installment has a release date of Dec. 16, 2011.
