Lena Waithe and Alana Mayo have called it quits after being married for only two months.

“After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,” they said in a joint statement shared with E! News. “We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time."

The Queen & Slim writer announced that she and Mayo had gotten married in secret back in November.

“It was [Alana’s] idea, like all good things are,” she told guest host John Legend during an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show. “She was just driving and she saw the [San Francisco] courthouse and she said, ‘We should get married there.’ And I said, ‘Cool. I’m down.’”

The two had been engaged since 2017, and had reportedly been an item since at least 2014.

“It was a humbling day, you know, to marry someone so amazing,” Waithe told Legend in November. “But also to really appreciate all the work that so many people have put in for us to be able to do that. Everybody should be able to do that.”

Waithe rose to stardom after proving herself as both a writer and an actor with projects like Master of None, The Chi, and Ready Player One. Mayo has previously been referred to as Michael B. Jordan’s “secret weapon” while serving as the head of production and development for his production company, Outlier Society.
