Noah Schnapp & Friends Joke About His Coming Out Video Going Viral
This is officially the best version of the TikTok prank.
Last week, Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp surprised and delighted fans by coming out as gay on TikTok. Schnapp plays Will Byers, who has been long speculated to be queer — and who Schnapp has confirmed is indeed queer — and whose coming out has been eagerly anticipated.
Turns out the actor himself beat Will to the punch, sharing on the social media platform that he is gay and recounting the moment when he shared that news with his friends and family. “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know,’” he wrote in text on the screen.
In the video, Schnapp lip-syncs to a voiceover that says, “You know what it never was? That serious. It was never that serious. Quite frankly, it will never be that serious.”

Needless to say, the news quickly went viral and made headlines around the world. Now Schnapp and friends are having a great time joking about how big the news turned out to be.
In the style of the “fake celebrity death prank” that has taken over TikTok in which people read fake headlines of stars dying and capturing others’ reactions, Schnapps friends read a “headline” about Schnapps coming out.
In the video, shared by user @meltyiceycubey, one of Schnapp's friends is seen looking at his phone and declaring, “Oh my God, guys, guys, guys! Noah Schnapp gay at 18!”
The room erupts into shocked declaration as it pans across a couch ending on Schnapp himself, yelling “Oh my God!”
The new video has blown up as well with 7.2 million views and over 2 million likes. Commenters shared how much they appreciate Schnapp’s self-awareness, and are delighted by his appearance in the video.
