Maybe there isn’t any more sex to be had in the city, but Cynthia Nixon is not yet out of the game. According to TVLine, Nixon has been chosen to star in Law & Order: Criminal Intent’s upcoming episode “loosely inspired by the troubled Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.
The Law & Order franchise is known for ripping stories from the headlines and making them their own. Nixon is to play Amanda Reese, a “high-strung” director of a Broadway play with a few technical glitches. Once one of the stunts results in the death of a cast member, and foul play is suspected, Reese loses control. Sound familiar?
If you’re not a show queen I don’t blame you for not knowing that Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is now infamous for the high risk stunts and action sequences that led to multiple cast members’ injuries during rehearsals and actual performances. Eventually, Julie Taymor co-creator and director – famous for directing The Lion King on Broadway and the films Frida, Titus and Across the Universe -- was pressured by producers to leave the show a week before the initial opening, MTV News reports. Is Amanda Reese’s character inspired by Julie Taymor? We’ll leave that for you to decide!
The Sex and the City Star had a cameo appearance on Law and Order in 1990, and an appearance on Law and Order: SVU for which she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Actress in 2008. So, this ain’t her first rodeo, people.
Criminal Intent kicks off its 10th season May 1 at 8/7c on the USA Network.
