Putting on a drag pageant isn’t easy, even if you’re a winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

If you’re not putting together a pageant, you’re not doing drag.

In 2019, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2 winner Alaska put on the first-ever Drag Queen of the Year Pageant Competition Award Contest Competition – a pageant that she created with fellow drag artist (and BFF) Lola LeCroix.

Now, an entire docuseries focusing on the behind-the-scenes of the pageant is being released on OUTtv. This series specifically focuses on the 2022 edition of Drag Queen of the Year, which faced quite a few obstacles that fans might not have been aware of.

The Behind the Drag Queen of the Year Pageant Competition Award Contest Competition docuseries premiered on April 21 and has been coming out with weekly episodes every Friday on OUTtv.

“Our goal with The Drag Queen of the Year Pageant Competition Award Contest Competition is to provide a platform for drag artists who come from a variety of unique drag perspectives,” Alaska and LeCroix wrote in a statement. “In a time where the artform of drag is under attack, amplifying queer voices is more important than ever, and we’re looking forward to continuing this pageant’s legacy. We’re grateful to all of the incredible 2022 DQOY contestants, our crew behind the scenes, and to OUTtv and Froot.tv who, through this series, will show the pageant from all sides – capturing the stressful, chaotic, and ultimately inspirational essence of Drag Queen of the Year.”

The cast of contestants seen in the docuseries includes Andrew Barret Cox, Bambi Banks-Couleé, Dvvsk, Militia Scunt, Neon Calypso, Ramona Slick, and Twink Trash.

As of 2023, Alaska and LeCroix are already gearing up for this year’s edition of Drag Queen of the Year, which will be held on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the Montalban Theatre.

This is an incredible pageant for drag enthusiasts to attend in person or consume via this brand-new docuseries now streaming on OUTtv.
