14-year-old Lewis Bailey was banned from participating in his school's talent show in Dudley, England after he made plans to perform as his drag alter-ego Athena Heart.
Being labled as "not appropriate” by the school, Bailey was banned.
"I'm heartbroken and confused. After all the effort I have put into it, it has knocked me confidence a lot," Bailey, who had prepared a lip sync performance to songs by RuPaul and Ariana Grande, said in a statement according to Gay Times.
Despite the ban, there's a happy ending to Bailey's story. While his school continues to get backlash from people all over the world on social media, Bailey has been invited to perform his sickening routine at DragWorld UK in August!
"We are so excited to have Lewis and his family at our event," Nathan Stone, creative director of MJR Group (the promoters of DragWorld UK), told Gay Times. "It is an absolute honour to showcase the great young talent. We don’t believe anyone should be told they can’t be who they want to be."
