Festival patrons will experience films that not only reflect of their own experience, but may also deepen their understanding of other LGBT communities of color.

The Outfest LGBT People of Color Film Festival opens this Friday at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. Outfest’s three-day festival will open with Blackbird, starring Academy-Award winner Monique.

The Festival will feature 30 short and feature-length films from around the world.  Festival patrons will experience films that not only reflect of their own experience, but may also deepen their understanding of other LGBT communities of color. Nearly 5000 people from across Southern California are expected to participate in this exciting event.

On Saturday at 6pm, Outfest will screen its lesbian short film program, Pink is the New Black, which includes the world premiere of Secrets & Toys, starring Dalila Ali Rajah and produced by Andrea Krauss.  Some sexy, some sweet, all the shorts in Pink is the New Black highlight their own unique issues affecting LGBT women of color.  According to the Outfest website, “Whether it's a disapproving parent with a dirty little secret of her own, the art of staring down a bar full of dyke-hating punks, or simply accepting that you're really in love with the girl next door, these fierce creatures fearlessly challenge the perception of pretty in pink.”

Outfest will also screen Daniel Armando’s multilayered filmWhat it Was, a beautifully artistic portrayal of a Latina actress living in New York.  That screening is on Friday at 7:15pm.

The 2014 Outfest Fusion LGBT People of Color Film Festival runs from March 14 – March 16.  Find schedule and ticketing information here.
