The Locals, an indie-rock lead by Yvonne Doll on lead vocals and her partner, bassist Christy Nunes, are hitting the stage of Europe’s Biggest Women’s Weekender, the GOGO Festival.
Once a year, the hot lesbian women of Europe flock to the city of Kent, England for a weekend similar to that of The Dinah in Palm Springs. The GOGO Festival offers two stages, 50 performers sky diving and sky high thrill rides all in one amazing and adrenaline-filled weekend.
The Chicago-based band has made a name for itself in the Mid-West, and has apparently developed a fan base overseas. Doll (whose mother’s name happens to be Barbie), I would say, has a sound similar to that of Kay Hanley of the 90’s band Letters to Cleo with a hint of Gwen Stefani. She certainly finds a way to smooth out her unique vocals in a way that compliments the instrumentals of Nunes’ and drummer Kirk Snedeker, while keeping The Locals’ indie feel. Think The Pixies meets the Yeah Yeah Yeahs with a bit of The Breeders but with a sound that is distinctly their own.

The GOGO Festival runs from June 17 to June 20. The Locals are scheduled to perform Saturday, June 18. Uh Huh Her, Betty and Heather Peace are also to perform at the festival this year.
