Margarethe "Grethe" Cammermeyer, former colonel in the Washington National Guard and gay rights advocate, is among the honorees of the 2011 Point Foundation Awards. She will receive the foundation’s Point Legend Award. Cammermeyer is the highest ranking military officer to acknowledge her homosexuality during service. Her autobiography, Serving in Silence, was turned into an Emmy Award-winning television film starring Glenn Close and Judy Davis.
Other honorees include Andy Cohen, Bravo’s Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Development, who will receive the Point Courage Award. Johnson & Johnson, which earned a 100% rating in the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) Corporate Equality Index for 2011, will receive the Point Inspiration Award.
Point Foundation is the nation's largest scholarship-granting organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students of merit.
The Point foundation awards will be presented at the organizations annual New York benefit, Point Honors, to be held on April 4 at Capitale (130 Bowery New York, NY 10013). Kelly Ripa will return for the second consecutive year to co-host the gala.
