Fans are still showing their support of Kesha in her ongoing legal battles against music producer Dr. Luke, after Kim Petras stirred up drama about the whole situation.

The “Die Young” singer tweeted a simple “Thank you” to fans on Sunday night, seemingly in response to getting #FreeKesha to trend on Twitter.

The hashtag is a commentary on Kesha accusing Dr. Luke of rape and abuse in 2014, while she was still under a recording contract with his company. She filed a civil suit against him, and he filed a defamation lawsuit against her in return. The complicated legal battles have been drawn out, with a new court date on the latter recently set for next summer.

It is notable that many other people in the music industry have shown her support, including artists who previously worked with Dr. Luke themselves.

But Petras is among those who have continued to work with the producer despite the accusations against him, and has defended that decision time and time again.

On Sunday, she tweeted “get talented or good at anything then talk to me.” Although it wasn’t immediately clear what the tweet was about, one person replied with “stop defending dr luke first then,” which seemed to set Petras off, ultimately prompting #FreeKesha to trend.

“5000000 ppl work with him why y’all only coming at me,” she wrote. “I have nothing to say or be ashamed of at all. go away.”

It’s true that Petras is far from the only artist to have continued working with Dr. Luke after Kesha made her accusations, but the fact that she has spoken out in defense of him and insinuated that she didn’t believe Kesha in previous interviews has undoubtedly contributed to frustrations with her in particular.

And she isn’t the only one who is called out on her collaborations with the alleged abuser, she just seems to be the only one who reacts defensively about it, where others opt to ignore being called out.

It also probably doesn’t help that both Petras and Kesha are members of the LGBTQ+ community, and likely have an overlapping fanbase to a certain extent. And fans who believe Kesha and take accusations of assault seriously haven’t had an easy time watching Petras continuously be so dismissive over the years.

But the singer doesn’t seem likely to change her tune anytime soon. After deleting her initial tweets, she followed up with a comment of “I have nothing to say or be ashamed of…stand by that bye.” And then deleted that tweet, as well.
