WWE star Sonya Deville is engaged — and the story has an adorable twist.
The wrestler, whose real name is Daria Berenato, proposed to girlfriend Toni Cassano just after Valentine’s Day in a wine cellar cave, according to People.
“It was always you,” she wrote on Instagram, sharing sweet photos of the couple celebrating, along with Cassano’s two children.
But the memorable day didn’t end when Berenato popped the question.
“I proposed, then Toni’s like, ‘Grab my purse,’” she recalled. “And she pulls out a freaking ring box, and she’s like, ‘I’ve been carrying this around in my purse for four months. So whenever you proposed, I could give you a ring immediately back.’”
Berenato came out publicly back in 2015 when she was put on the spot about her relationship status while filming the WWE competition series Tough Enough. Shortly after, she signed with WWE.
Her relationship with Cassano started just last April, although she told People she knew Cassano was “the love of my life” by the end of their very first date.
“It’s so cool to me to be in this position right now, to be engaged as a gay female in the WWE, and to have proposed to my fiancée,” she said. “Because I look back at seven years ago, eight years ago when I wasn’t even openly out yet, and I was hiding relationships, and I was still trying to figure out my comfortability with being gay and who I was.”
But it’s all clearly worked out for the best, as Berenato says she has “found my best friend, my soul mate and my life partner all in one incredible human.”
