The allegations surrounding the show's creator and star have made the future of the comedy series uncertain.

The FX sitcom English Teacher just picked up for a second season despite the show’s star Brian Jordan Alvarez facing sexual assault allegations.

In December, Alvarez was accused of sexual assault and harassment by his former collaborated Jon Ebeling during the time the two were working on the web series The Gay and Wonderous Life of Caleb Gallo, Outreports.

Through his spokesperson, Alvarez has denied the allegations, claiming they were “entirely consensual.”

According to Screenrant, even with this looming controversy, the comedy series will be renewed for season 2 and may even start production this month, though it remains unclear which cast members will return.

The comedy series, about a teacher (Alvarez) who finds himself caught up in personal, professional, and political aspects of working at a Texas high school, became a hit and gained even more viewers when it streamed on Hulu.

The first season of the popular show quickly garnered a fan base and received praise for its writing and performances, with Alvarez himself helping to raise the show’s profile by making frequent TikTok videos of himself dancing — frequently shirtless — with captions reminding people to “Stream English Teacher on Hulu.”

Not only is Alvarez the star of the comedy, but he is also the show’s creator, which would make excising him from English Teacher even trickier. So far FX has not commented on the new season or whether Alvarez will be asked back.

If production resumes this month, fans of the show could get new episodes starting at the end of 2026.
