"What a joy to play!"

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially queer. Thor: Ragnarok's Valkyrie (played by Tessa Thompson) is bisexual.

Thompson confirmed Valkyrie's sexual identity in a tweet after fans debated over her character in the film. "She’s bi," wrote Thompson. "She cares very little about what men think of her. What a joy to play!"

This is true to the comic book series, Valkyrie having dated Thor, Agent Venom, and archaeologist Annabelle Riggs. But as Screen Rant points out, while Valkyrie may identify as bi, she "never expresses her interest in women in the film."

There's still hope! Thompson is rumored to return to the Marvel universe in Avengers: Infinity War, so technically there is still time for a female love interest for Valkyrie. *fingers crossed*

While Thompson will be the first LGBT character in the Marvel films, queer people have been popping up on the small screen. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Jessica JonesIron FistDaredevil, and The Defenders all feature homosexual characters.
