Game of Thrones and Bodyguard star Richard Madden is set to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in next year's The Eternals, and being a part of the momentous film's incredibly diverse cast is not lost on him.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Golden Globe winner spoke about the importance of diversity and queer inclusion in the upcoming Marvel Studios film.
"I think it's hugely important, just the cast is so diverse," Madden told ET. "I'm a white male actor and not in the majority of this cast. I'm the minority, which is important in terms of diversity in filmmaking. I think Marvel are really at the forefront of that."
Madden's sentiments come on the heels of Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirming at last month's D23 Expo that The Eternals will feature an openly-gay, married character. Representation is something a lot of LGBTQ+ Marvel fans have been fighting for ever since the earlier years of the movie studio, and it's nice to see that with Phase 4, so many people involved with making these big-budget superhero movies are also starting to get on-board with the message of queer rep.
The Eternals is set to hit theaters in November 2020.
