Rachel Weisz to Play Elizabeth Taylor in Biopic and It's Perfect
Rachel Weisz might not be playing a lesbian in her next film, but she is taking on a beloved gay icon — Elizabeth Taylor.
The film, A Special Relationship, “will be told through the lens Taylor’s friendship with her assistant Roger Wall,” according to Variety. Wall and Taylor were very close, and after he committed suicide after being diagnosed with HIV, Taylor referred to it as “one of the biggest losses of my life.”
Alongside her numerous acting accomplishments, Taylor became known for being a champion in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Even back in the ‘80s, when AIDS was the most stigmatized and least understood, Taylor was funding research and speaking out against the way the country was approaching the disease. A Special Relationship will focus on that turn to activism.
“Audiences are clearly fascinated by the private lives of iconic Hollywood stars,” producers Iain Canning and Emile Sherman said. “There is no one more iconic than Elizabeth Taylor, and Simon Beaufoy has written a role that shines a light on Elizabeth’s humor and humanity, which will be beautifully brought to life through the extraordinary talents of Rachel Weisz.”
Weisz has a thriving queer lady fan base that has only grown stronger after her jaunt spitting in Rachel McAdams’ mouth in Disobedience and going toe-to-toe with Emma Stone for the affection of Olivia Colman in The Favourite.
Meaning, between that and how much gay and bisexual men love Elizabeth Taylor, this movie knows exactly what demographic it’s targeting. And we’re already appreciative.

It's way too early to know when this film may be coming at us, but it can definitely, absolutely already take all our money."
Rachel Kiley is presumably a writer and definitely not a terminator. She can usually be found crying over queerbaiting in the Pitch Perfect franchise or on Twitter, if not both.
