Awards season is about to be in full swing. Earlier this week, the Golden Globe nominations dropped with more than a dozen nominations for LGBTQ projects. Now, the Screen Actors Guild Awards has announced its nominees and several queer and queer-adjacent actors and productions have been honored. 

Bombshell, the Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie film about the Fox News sexual harassment scandal, leads the way with nominations in a film with queer content. Without giving away the film’s LGBTQ storyline, the movie has been nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, while Theron nabbed a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role and Kidman and Robbie were nominated for their supporting roles. 

Jennifer Lopez also earned a nomination for what’s being billed as a supporting role in Hustlers, Lorene Scafaria’s film that costars several out performers including Trace Lysette, Cardi B., and Lizzo. 

For his portrayal of Elton John in Rocketman, Taron Egerton earned a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.

Also nominated for a biopic is Renée Zellweger for her portrayal of LGBTQ icon Judy Garland in the last year of her life in Judy.

On the televised front, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Fleabag, in which her titular character found herself attracted to another woman in an episode this season, scooped up a few nods. Waller-Bridge earned a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series while out actor Andrew Scott was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as the “hot priest.” The series was also nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Schitt’s Creek, the breakout comedy from out creator Dan Levy and his dad Eugene Levy, was also nominated in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series category, as was The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which introduced an overtly queer storyline in its third season.

In terms of TV dramas, The Handmaid’s Tale, which features several queer characters, was nominated for Outstanding Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Meanwhile, Jodie Comer earned a nod for playing a bisexual assassin in Killing Eve.

Netflix’s show about women wrestlers, GLOW, which features lesbian, bisexual, and gay characters, picked up a nod for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series.

Finally, LGBTQ favorites including Big Little Lies and The Crown were nominated as an ensemble in a drama series.
