Lil Nas X Just Broke Mariah Carey's Record For Longest-Running #1 Song

"Old Town Road" is still riding till it can't no more.

Dust off your cowboy boots and rev up your best YEE-HAW. Smash hit "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X has officially spent its 17th week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart!

Nas recorded the original track in his bedroom with a simple beat from YouTube that rapidly went viral on Tik Tok. "Old Town Road's" popularity on the app, combined with its insanely catchy lyrics and the controversy of Billboard removing it from the country charts, catapulted the track to number one on the Hot 100—where it has now stayed for seventeen weeks.

The previous record was a tie for sixteen weeks held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men with "One Sweet Day" and the "Despacito (Remix)" by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber.

X, who came out earlier this summer on the last day of Pride Month, previously broke the record for longest-running #1 by an openly gay man at fifteen weeks.
