Disney Channel's original series Andi Mack garnered national attention last year for a groundbreaking coming out scene featuring one of its central characters. Now the coming-of-age drama is getting headlines for much more sinister reasons.
Stoney Westmoreland, who plays Andi Mack's grandfather on the show, was arrested last week in Salt Lake City, Utah (where the show films) for arranging to have sex with a 13-year-old boy, reports CNN. Westmoreland used a dating app to send pictures knowingly to a minor, asked him for sex, and arranged a time to meet him. The local police met the 48-year-old at the meeting spot and he was arrested. He's facing four counts of dealing in materials harmful to minors.
Disney Channel promptly fired Westmoreland from the show. "Given the nature of the charges and our responsibility for the welfare of employed minors, we have released him from his recurring role and he will not be returning to work on the series which wraps production on its third season next week," said the company in a statement.
