Former Republican Vice Presidential candidate and beauty queen, and Alaska governor Sarah Palin defended beleaguered Miss California Carrie Prejean against liberal bias in a
;>statement issued Wednesday, according to
Advocate.com.Palin said she related to the "liberal onslaught of malicious attacks against Carrie Prejean," adding that the issues surrounding Prejean and her anti-gay marriage statements are a matter of free speech.
"Carrie and I spoke soon after the attacks started; I can relate as a liberal target myself," said Palin, who became fodder for Tina Fey and the Saturday Night Live set during the run-up to the election in November.
"What I find so remarkable is that these politically motivated attacks fail to show that what Carrie and I believe is also what President Obama and Secretary Clinton believe -- marriage is between a man and a woman," Palin continued in her statement.
"I applaud Donald Trump for standing with Carrie during this time. And I respect Carrie for standing strong and staying true to herself, and for not letting those who disagree with her deny her protection under the nation's First Amendment rights," Palin said of pageant owner Donald Trump's decision to allow Prejean to keep her crown although she reportedly broke her contract by aligning herself with the
National Organization for Marriage.
