Breast health expert Dr. Susan Love announced Thursday that she was diagnosed with leukemia after a routine blood test. Love told followers  she expects to make a full recovery, but will take a leave of absence from her work as president of the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation.Â

"I plan to bring my indomitable drive and energy to overcoming this and will be back to work as soon as possible," she wrote.Â

During her absence, Love said the daily operations will be run by Naz Sykes, the executive director of the foundation, board chair Kate McLean, and board member Karen Duvall, MD who will serve as medical advisor until Love returns to her post.Â

The foundation is currently working on several breast health related research projects, including developing a breast fluid test to identify women who are at higher risk of breast cancer, as well as researching environmental and infectious causes of breast cancer. Â
