While hundreds of supporters — and opponents — of San Antonio's pending LGBT antidiscrimination ordinance packed City Hall for public testimony on the bill yesterday, one of the demonstrators is a noted basketball star, and apparently confused about the intent of the ordinance.

Sophia Young, a fourth-pick, first-round WNBA draft pick in 2006 who plays for the San Antonio Silver Stars, was among those who prayed inside City Hall that the ordinance would fail. She tweeted the above photo of herself on Wednesday, along with text that indicates she's confused by the meaning of the term "antidiscrimination."

"My vote is still No," Young tweeted yesterday along with the photo. "San Antonio should not allows Same sex marriages." [sic]

Earlier in the day, Young tweeted a similar sentiment, asking "Should San Antonio be a city that allow same sex marriage?? I vote NO."

The latest iteration of the proposed ordinance would build on current antidiscrimination policies to prohibit discrimination against LGBT people in public accommodations and businesses, while still allowing "religious exemptions" for clergy and religious institutions who don't believe in treating LGBT people the same as straight people.  

The San Antonio ordinance has been languishing in committee for months, often sparking intense debate and criticism — most notably when city councilwoman Elisa Chan was caught on tape referring to LGBT people as "disgusting," according to secretly recorded audio leaked by a former staffer. Chan later defended her remarks, saying she had a First Amendment right to her beliefs, and that she didn't think her comments would be made public.
