Broadway has long been synonymous with gay culture, but that doesn’t mean all the stars are gay.
While the theater has always been a safe haven for the queen community, and the stereotype is that if you’re a Broadway star, you must be gay, that’s not actually true. Some fans may raise an eyebrow at straight male stars of the stage, but there are some famous actors out there who have made a splash on Broadway and even won Tony Awards who are straight as an arrow.
Their sexuality may be regularly called into question, but according to these stars, they are, in fact, not gay.
Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman may have become famous starring in action films, but he’s also a stellar song and dance man. The world got a taste of this when he starred in the movie musicals Les Misérables and The Greatest Showman, but may not know that he’s a Tony Award-winning Broadway Star.
In 2003, he made his Broadway debut in The Boy from Oz and since then has starred in Broadway plays like A Steady Rain and The Music Man, and he's hosted the Tonys four times.

You may know Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, but others may have had their gay awakening seeing him naked in Equus on Broadway. The straight actor has also starred in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Cripple of Inishmaan, The Lifespan of a Fact, Merrily We Roll Along, and Every Brilliant Thing.

Josh Groban has sold million of records, starred in films like Crazy, Stupid, Love and Muppets Most Wanted, and been nominated for a Tony award for his work on Broadway.
Groban made his Broadway debut in 2016 in the musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, and then returned in 2023 to play the titular character in a revival of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Matthew Morrison made his Broadway debut way back in 1998 when he starred in Footloose more than a decade before he took on the role of Will Schuester on Glee.
He worked on Broadway for years before he became a Hollywood star, starring in plays like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, South Pacific, and Finding Neverland. Morrison returned to Broadway once again in 2026 to star as Bobby Darin in Just in Time.

Actor and director Lin-Manuel Miranda has been married to Vanessa Nadal for more than 15 years, but he’s also made his career on Broadway.
From In the Heights to West Side Story to Bring It On: The Musical, Miranda had already made a name for himself in theater before he wrote and starred in the mega-hit musical Hamilton, which cemented his name in the annals of Broadway history.

The Ferris Bueller’s Day Off actor has starred in Broadway productions of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song Trilogy, The Producers opposite Nathan Lane (which earned him a Tony nomination), The Odd Couple, and Plaza Suite.
